The Pointless Waymarks Cloud Backup GUI and Command Line Runner are Windows programs for backing up a drive or folder to an S3-compatible Storage Provider (Amazon S3, Cloudflare R2 and Wasabi are currently supported). Features Include:
- Windows Desktop GUI Program to create, edit and monitor backups
- Command Line program that can easily be scheduled with programs including the Windows Task Scheduler and Pointless Waymarks PowerShell Runner
- Backup Runs can be limited to ___ hours to make it easy to restrict uploads to times when the bandwidth isn't needed for streaming/meetings/games
- No File History/Versioning - this limitation means you can easily access your S3 files with any program that connects to S3
- No Sync or Restore - These functions can be useful, but they can also be a source of mistakes that can cause local files to be lost forever, with the expectation that backups will be frequent and the need to restore very rare these functions are purposely omitted.
- Data is cached in a SQLite database to make runs more efficient, but that data is not needed to resume a run
- MD5 file comparisons

I care quite a bit about my photographs and data - enough that I want cloud backups. I have had some of my data backed up on Amazon S3 since the early days of Jungle Disk. Years of using various backup programs - and in recent years dealing with backups at work - gave me a very clear idea of the features I want in a backup program. So after working with the S3 API for the Pointless Waymarks CMS I decided that with the limited set of features that I wanted it would be possible, reasonable and fun to create my own backup program.
I can't say if the specific set of features that this backup program has will be valuable for anyone else - I can say that this software has worked well for me, and it has been a joy to have backup software that does exactly what I want, nothing else, and is free and open!
